Chad Jacobson was just 20 years old when he took the fall while skiing that would eventually lead to the founding of Norwegian Jake’s Mountain Food and Gear.

As Chad came off the cliff, he was shot upwards causing his skis to shoot out in front of him. He landed on his back... breaking both skis just behind the bindings. His back was fractured in two places, and ankles, although not broken, suffered ligament damage. He came back to Michigan and while recovering wondered why some business did not make a portable meal that adults could eat. This had been bothering him while laying disabled for many hours on the mountain.

The right package was needed to keep the food fresh and safe, and a paper cylinder was originally chosen. But as time moved on the cylinder was replaced with a reusable tub. This provided the opportunity for unique labeling. This provided the opportunity for private label and the development of Edible Advertising.

In 2002, a small group of investors became involved and started looking at the opportunity and began to analyze the potential for developing the concept into a commercially viable product. It was determined that in order for the company to succeed we needed to get involved in a distribution model that already existed, and the company's focus shifted. At that time, the Jacobsons moved on to other ventures and the company moved on to the retail grocery industry. Over the last 4 years, the concept of convenient packaging has taken many turns. LunchBoxers have now come to the largest retailers, built more than a million meals to feed people hit by Hurricane Katrina, appeared in your local convenience stores and now are advertising vehicles for getting out your corporate message.
